About
BISFAI, the Bar-Ilan Symposium in Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, is the premier event of AI happening in Israel. It was established in 1989 by Prof. Martin Golumbic. Since then, it has taken place every other year (besides 2003), and is regularly held at Bar-Ilan University by the Department of Computer Science (besides 2005). BISFAI boasts excellent talks in different subfields of AI, including by renowned AI researchers from outside Israel (see our speakers list).

Planning and Learning for Multi-Agent and Multi-Robot Coordination Prof. Christopher Amato, Northeastern University |
I’ll discuss our recent methods for planning under uncertainty and reinforcement learning for coordinating teams of agents with limited or no communication. These methods optimize agent choices (e.g., control and communication decisions) in a principled and scalable way while considering uncertainty in outcomes, sensors and the communication channel. I will show results from several multi-robot tasks. |

This talk discusses the advances and challenges in automated software fault localization, an essential task of debugging. In particular, it delves into details of one of the most promising automated software fault localization techniques, and its connection to automated test generation. We also discuss a new radical metric that has the potential of changing industrial standards (leaving behind the over-used, meaningless coverage). We conclude with a list of challenges and future work tendencies. |

Awards
The IAAI Lifetime Achivement and Service Award
In recognition of his many significant contributions to the science of artificial intelligence, and in grateful acknolwedgement of his dedication over many years to the development of a strong, vibrant scientific community in Israel, the Israeli Association for Artificial Intelligence (IAAI) and BISFAI have decided to award Prof. Martin Golumbic the first IAAI Lifetime Achievement and Service Award. Prof. Golumbic of Haifa University is one of the founders, leaders, and long-time supporters of the IAAI and the BISFAI conference, for close to 30 years. He is an outstanding role model for the community, and an inspiration to a younger generation of AI researchers and practitioners in Israel and outside of it.
Friend of the IAAI
Prof. Barbara Grosz of Harvard University is recognized for her proactive, persistent contributions to the scientific community in Israel: to its growth, its scientific standards, its integration with the global scientific community, and its promotion of excellent scientifists. For close to 40 years, Prof. Grosz had formed many collaborations with Israeli scientists, mentored Israeli students in Israel and outside of it, encouraged, invited, and supervised post-docs, and volunteered to serve of academic and science committees in some of the highest agencies for science in Israel. For her sustained efforts over the years to improve the Israeli scientific committee, the Israeli Association for Artificial Intelligence and BISFAI have decide to name her Friend of the IAAI.
The IAAI Best Dissertation Award in Artificial Intelligence (2019)
The Israeli Association for Artificial Intelligence (IAAI) established the IAAI Doctoral Dissertation Award program to recognize superior research and writing by doctoral candidates in Israel studying Artificial Intelligence in its inclusive sense: Search, Planning, Machine Learning, Machine Vision, Natural Language Processing, Data Mining, Plan Recognition, Intelligent Robotics, Cognitive Modeling, and more. All areas associated with AI are considered.
The 2019 IAAI Dissertation Award is sponsored by Intuition Robotics. It will be awarded at the upcoming BISFAI Conference, on June 3rd, 2019. Winner: Avi Segal, Ben Gurion University (Advisor: Prof. Kobi Gal).
