Abstract

Modeling crowd behavior is an important challenge for cognitivemodelers. We propose a novel model of crowd behavior, based onFestinger's Social Comparison Theory, a social psychology theoryknown and expanded since the early 1950's. We propose a concreteframework for SCT, and evaluate its implementations in several crowdbehavior scenarios. Results from task measures and human judgesevaluation shows that the SCT model produces improved resultscompared to base models from the literature.
