| Giuseppe Peano | Open Mathematics | "Infinitesimals via Cauchy sequences: Refining the classical equivalence." | 21d |
Giuseppe Peano (1858-1932) was an Italian mathematician most famous
for his work in mathematical logic and for the Peano axioms for the
natural numbers. Less known is the fact that Peano was a pioneer of
infinitesimals. In an article published in 1910, Peano developed a
theory of a system including infinitesimals of a type that would be
developed more fully by Schmieden and Laugwitz several decades later.
